Wenona is seeking a dynamic and passionate Teacher Librarian to join our outstanding Library and Information Services team, and to inspire our young women through dynamic classroom practice, refined professional knowledge and a commitment to high performance.

This role will commence Term 4, 2023 or in Term 1, 2024, by negotiation. Please note this role has a small teaching load.


Key Responsibilities

  • Guide students to become information literate citizens through facilitation of a guided inquiry scope and sequence across the curriculum.
  • Facilitate and support the learning and teaching needs of students and staff by actively engaging with classroom teachers and departments in identifying areas of potential collaboration.
  • Continuously develop the Library collection and promote independent thought and a love of reading alongside academic and Library staff.
  • Have an innovative and enthusiastic approach to libraries, reading and information seeking.
  • Provide a welcoming, flexible environment and engaging lessons that encourage reading, learning and creative thinking for students using a broad range of resources and media.
  • Be proactive in responding to users' changing needs and effectively manage users' expectations.
  • Provide training and assistance to students and staff in the effective use of systems and information retrieval processes.
  • Support and implement School and Library wide policies and undertake tasks and responsibilities as request by the Head of Library and Information Services.
  • Collaboratively with the Head of Library and Information Services regularly review the Library collection to ensure relevancy to curriculum, staff and students and weed collection as required.
  • Proactively develop and implement strategies, programs, events and activities to foster and support reading and literacy across the curriculum, in response to internal and external events, and to develop in students and staff a love of literature and habits of lifelong reading.
  • Use a variety of selection tools to identify current trends in resources and literature and provide a user centred approach to information delivery and dissemination.
  • Working as part of the Library team, ensure the day to day operation and administration of the Library is efficient and all systems, resources and equipment are well maintained. This will also include shelving books, acquisition and processing of materials and ensuring the organisation of resources and spaces is conducive to the smooth operation of the Library as a learning space.
  • Maintain an awareness of contemporary practices in areas relevant to this position and critically assess processes and activities, identify opportunities for improvement in service, efficiency and effectiveness and implement as appropriate.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Qualifications and experience in Teacher Librarianship / Education.
  • Ability to teach and aspire to the standards articulated in the Wenona Effective Teaching Cycle.
  • Strong knowledge of NESA curriculum, HSC assessment practices and marking processes, including developments with Australian Curriculum implementation in NSW.
  • Familiarity and experience of library procedures including cataloguing and working knowledge of learning management systems (Infiniti and Canvas).
  • A commitment to pastoral care and meeting the social and emotional wellbeing needs of students.
  • An ongoing commitment to professional learning, including making a contribution to the broader education community.
  • An understanding of and commitment to the educational needs of young women.
  • A commitment to collaborative teaching practices and an ability to contribute to a team and faculty of professional educators.
  • A willingness to contribute to the broader life of the school community.
  • An ability to use ICT to facilitate and enrich student learning and engagement beyond the classroom.
