POSITION OVERVIEW:


Territory Wide Surgical Services forms part of the Clinical Operations Division within Canberra Hospital and Health Services of ACT Health and supports the provision of effective public surgical services in ACT public hospitals.


The role of the Territory Wide Surgical Services Team is to establish, review and update policy that governs the management of elective surgery for ACT public hospitals.

The service also provides support for initiatives to improve the efficiency and effectiveness for elective surgery including managing access to surgery through the Central Waitlist Service and the Telephone information Service.

A key strategic priority for this service is to deliver timely access to effective and safe hospital care.

Therefore, another key role of this service is to work collaboratively with all hospitals to develop and implement Territory Wide initiatives that are aimed at improving access to elective surgery and services.


DUTIES:

Under limited direction of the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) you will perform tasks that assist in the management of patient waiting for elective surgery in the ACT


You will:

  • Carry out a range of administrative duties related to the management of elective surgery including
  • Receipting and registering the Request for Admission form
  • Use of health information technology and databases with a high level of data integrity
  • Follow policy, procedures and guidelines
  • Conduct scheduled audits of the Elective Surgery Waiting List and communicate with patients and relevant team members in regard to the audit responses and maintenance of the audit databases, spreadsheets and lists.
  • Participate in and propose ideas in team meetings for the effective and efficient flow of service to meet the Territory Wider Surgical Service objectives.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:

Knowledge of ACT Patient Administration System (ACTPAS) is desirable but not essential. A high level of keyboard and administrative skills in a health environment would be an advantage.

Have an understanding of how the National Standards and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.


Fulfill the responsibilities of this role as detailed in the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.


  • Undergo a preemployment National Police Check

Note:

This is a part-time temporary position available at 22.05 hours per week for a period of six months with the possibility of permanency.

The full-time salary noted above will be paid pro-rata. This position may be assessed on selection criteria and referee reports only.
