About the role

The Policy Analysis and Engagement (PAE) Unit sits within the Transport Policy Branch which shapes the long-term vision for the transport system and sets new directions and priorities for the department.

PAE contributes to shaping the future of transportation in Queensland by developing and promoting strategic insights to drive policy responses, leading scenarios frameworks and providing branch program oversight.

As Principal Advisor, Policy Definition and Oversight, you will contribute to the development, implementation, management and reporting of the branch program and strategic policy projects.


Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the development and oversight of the branch's policy program including leading the process for project prioritisation, monitoring, and reporting on the delivery of the program. This includes preparing insightful reports and dashboards and contributing to continuous improvement to support the branch leadership team.
  • Analysing emerging transport policy issues, including evolving customer expectations and needs, to inform strategic policy development and implementation that supports the direction of the transport system in Queensland.
  • Building and strengthening internal and external stakeholder relationships across the department, government, and transport sector to support policy and program delivery.
  • Preparing advice, correspondence, briefs, presentations and reports in response to policy and program priorities and direction.
  • Providing project management support and coordination including managing competing priorities under tight timeframes.

To thrive in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:


  • Experience in program formulation, monitoring and reporting, including data analysis and visualisation using Microsoft Excel, PowerBI or similar.
  • A background and understanding of policy analysis, policy development and implementation.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Track record in managing competing priorities successfully.
