The Midwifery Manager (MM3) is a new role created during a review and restructure of the Midwifery leadership for the Maternity Services at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital.

We are looking for someone who is wanting the next step in their professional career to lead the team and develop a culture focused on quality and safety, women centred care and staff wellbeing.

Where you'll be working
Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital maternity service provides care for approximately 1200 births per year.

We take pride in our service, providing a high standard of clinical care supporting families through pregnancy, birth and early stages of parenting.


Our experienced team is comprised of dedicated doctors and midwives who provide family-focused care in line with the NSW Ministry of Health policies and directives.


Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital is a public teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Technology Sydney and the University of Sydney.

We work with the universities to support the clinical training of new midwives and doctors. Hornsby Ku-ring-gai maternity service provides level four maternity service and level three special care nursery.


What you'll be doing


The MM3 will oversee the service delivery in collaboration with the Medical Head of Department, two MUM2 positions, CMC2 and CMEs.

The key priorities for the new role will be to implement and embed a culture that fosters quality and safety while supporting the professional development of all staff to ensure that we provide care to our women that is socially and culturally respectful.


The Midwifery Manager is responsible for implementation and monitoring contemporary models of care in the Maternity Services, including Inpatient ward, Special Care Nursery, Ambulatory Care Clinics and models of care to ensure the delivery of high quality patient care and efficient use of resources.

Responsible for the professional and operational leadership to; deliver safe, effective and efficient patient and family centred care.


Ensures high standards of professional practice and nurturing, positive workplace environment to develop midwifery practice and build a team of midwives creating a harmonious positive team that fosters growth and learning.


The Midwifery Manager leads collaboration with the Medical Co-Lead, the Clinical Director - WCFH and Midwifery Unit Manager's to identify and develop strategic direction of the Service within the Network and the NSW Ministry of Health strategic plans.

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Midwife with relevant post graduate qualifications in clinical leadership or management; or willingness to undertake same.
  • Demonstrated high level of written and verbal communication skills and ability to liaise and negotiate with clinicians, managers, staff and other key stakeholders and manage conflict.
  • Demonstrated high level leadership skills and ability to motivate, inspire and manage staff to achieve service and organisational goals utilising recognised change management principles.
  • Demonstrated focus on service excellence evidenced by the ability to read and act on issues quickly, decisively and effectively, experience in managing a complex service with competing demands for access, throughput and resources.
  • Demonstrated understanding of financial management in health care and the ability to identify and monitoring financial efficiency strategies. High level computer skills for health related programs including a range of workforce and performance/analytics systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide others to analyse workplace issues and develop solutions to enhance system
