Role:


The Structured Workplace Learning Support Officer will perform a number of duties in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice and school policy as a member of the Pathways team, under the guidance of the Leading Teacher (Pathways).


The Structured Workplace Learning Officer is required to:

  • provide friendly and helpful assistance to students, parents, staff and visitors to the college
- prioritise and manage work demands
- communicate effectively with a range of people
- work as part of the Pathways team to ensure tasks are completed in a timely and professional manner
- provide advice to key personnel relating to the responsibilities of the position


An Education Support position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the _Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic)_ or its successor.

Supervision of students can be required, individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Duties:


  • Monitoring students in structured work placements through phone calls and workplace visits with employers
  • Provide and maintain records of the work placement agreement between employer, student and school and ensure that the correct certification is logged on the appropriate software systems
  • Liaise with the MIPS Officer to support some VCE-VM students to find work placement when required (Year 11 in 2023)
  • Liaise with Pathways staff and relevant VCE-VM staff about work placements
  • Together with VM staff and Pathways personnel, support selected students to complete SWL as a VASS unit
  • Perform other duties appropriate to the classification to assist in the effective delivery of services

Days and hours of attendance are: 2 days (Wednesday and Thursday); 8.30am to 3.30pm (includes 1/2 hour unpaid lunchbreak).

This position is not generally required to work during school holidays.


It is anticipated that Thursday will be primarily used for contacting employers via phone and making onsite visits to workplaces.

This is the day that students will be at their work placements.


Wednesday hours will primarily be used for administrative tasks and liaising with students, parents, teachers and Pathways team personnel as required.

A $3,000 Special Payment will be paid to recognise offsite visits to workplaces and employers. Travel will be reimbursed using the cents per kilometre method, currently 78 cents per kilometre.

Keilor Downs College is a large single campus secondary school of approximately 1300 students, situated on the north-western edge of suburban Melbourne.

Students and staff reflect the many different cultural backgrounds present within the local community.

The School's Strategic Plan (SSP prioritises "Maximising the achievement and learning growth of every student, particularly in literacy and numeracy", "Improving student learning engagement and learner agency" and "Improving the social and emotional engagement and wellbeing of every student".


The college also participates in a local Vocational Education & Training (VET) cluster, to enhance the choices available to students by sharing VET classes, and provides Cert II Hospitality, Cert II Sport & Recreation, and Cert II Building & Construction on site.

The latter in a specifically constructed Trade Training Centre (TTC), which is one of three facilities built as a joint project across colleges in the Brimbank VET Cluster.


An emphasis of the college is its strong student support structure with each individual student being known and supported academically and personally.
