_Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) is seeking an experienced Visiting Medical Officer to join our team at The Canterbury Hospital_


We are looking for a Visiting Medical Officer in Gastroenterology The primary purpose of the role is to provide high quality diagnostic and consultative specialty services in Gastroenterology/Hepatology and to participate in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities under the General Medicine Department and The Canterbury Hospital as required.


In addition, the role will also require participation in the Gastroenterology/Liver consultant roster, in particular for inpatient consults and the Liver Clinic which has an emphasis on providing ambulatory care to patients in our local community with hepatitis and related complications.


The Visiting Medical Officer will ensure a high standard of professional performance and encouragement of an academic environment which supports education, research and professional development.

The tenure for this position is until February 2024.


The successful applicant will be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Gastroenterology) and/or other equivalent specialist recognition.

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the NSW Public Hospitals Visiting Medical Officer Determination.


All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW. Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.


To be employed by NSW Health, you are required to provide evidence of current immunity status that complies with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy.
