The Role


The Land Engineering Agency, as part of the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group, supports various Directorates and Systems Program Offices to ensure successful requirements development, acquisition and in-service support of land materiel.

The Agency provides services in engineering, testing, design and development and technical data management. Services are provided across the whole of the Defence Capability Life Cycle

Accredited Test Services (ATS) is responsible for testing and measuring capability to support engineering for LEA.

As part of ATS, the Automotive Performance Laboratory (APL) performs test and evaluation activities that aid in the verification of vehicle performance, reliability, interoperability, human factors and safety in a developmental, acceptance or sustainment test and evaluation (T&E) environment.

The dynamic T&E of land vehicles is performed on roadways of known profile and roughness, and specialised circuits and obstacles.

Specific facilities include first and second class roads, cross country courses, deep fording pools, sand and mud pits, grassed side slopes, weighbridges, tilt tables, a centre of gravity table, vertical gradients, braking strip, random ride circuit and a vehicle handling test circuit.

The dynamic operation of vehicle systems is assessed by following defined and repeatable mission profiles using experienced test drivers. APL also provides a comprehensive vehicle workshop to support vehicle trials.


As a member of the Land Engineering Agency, the Technical Officer will have a unique opportunity to be part of an engineering and technical team to deliver Australian Defence Force systems that are at the leading edge of Defence capability.


About our Team
The Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) is an integral part of the Department of Defence.

This group purchases and maintains military equipment and supplies in the quantities and to the service levels that are required by Defence and approved by Government.

Within CASG, the Land Domain acquires and supports designated land systems for the Australian Defence Force.

  • Meet the mandatory qualifications or have relevant work experience.
  • Operate a wide range of tracked and wheeled vehicles and earthmoving plant.
  • Perform a wide variety of automotive based test activities.
  • Communicate effectively both in written and oral form.
