Similarly today, St Vincent's Correctional Health aims to make a major difference by providing multidisciplinary healthcare to inmates at Parklea Correctional Complex.

About the role:


As a Correctional Health Assistant In Nursing, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the custodial patient and the community.

You will serve to assist as a critical link to identifying the health care needs of the individual patient and promoting health and wellbeing.

You will be responsible to work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse for the provision of primary health care, triage and assessment, coordination and delivery of nurse-led clinics, health promotion activities, liaison with the inter-disciplinary team, care planning and reviews, and conducting health assessments.

You will respond to the daily needs of the custodial patient population with regard to primary health issues, including monitoring and follow up.

The successful applicant(s) will be expected to work a 7 days rotating roster.


The vacancy is open to Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens who hold a valid New Zealand passport, Australian permanent residents and those non-residents deemed by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship to be eligible to work in Australia only.

Applicants will be required to obtain a Corrective Service Clearance NSW to be able to take up this role.

Selection Criteria

  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent's Health Australia.
  • HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Service Assistance (Descriptor: Assisting in Nursing Work in Acute Care) or have completed one (1) or more year training of a Bachelor of Nursing degree.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, under delegation, and the ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated effective time management skills.
