Position Information:


Fort Street High School is an academically selective high school with a long history of providing education for gifted students.

The school is located in Petersham and has an enrolment of 910 students of whom 75% come from language backgrounds other than English.

The school is known for developing leadership across an extensive range of areas and endeavour.

Fortians are encouraged to be self-directed, independent learners as well as critical thinking young adults who contribute to society in the context of a highly developed social conscience.

The school provides a wide range of co-curricular programs which enhance the learning of Fortians. The school is supported by a diverse and highly engaged parent community.


Selection Criteria:

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

  • Proven success in developing and implementing proactive and inclusive whole school wellbeing strategies and policies in response to student needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strong educational leadership to an extensive wellbeing team, to develop capacity of staff and cultivate an understanding of wellbeing whilst supporting a culture of high expectations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop highly productive partnerships and collaborate with families, school staff, external support services and members of the DoE Student Wellbeing Directorate to support student wellbeing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of the school's executive team to evaluate wellbeing practices and identify and define improvement measures that support the schools' Strategic Improvement Plan (SIP).

General Selection Criteria:


  • Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  • Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  • Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  • Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  • Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
