    About the position

    We are looking for a passionate IoT research engineer with a sound track record in the fields of AI and the Internet of Things, to join the Cisco-La Trobe Centre for AI and IoT, which is a research centre first of its kind in Australia that specialises in exploiting the synergy between AI and IoT technologies.

    The successful applicant will be supported by an externally R&D project funded by Aglantis. Aglantis is at the forefront of precision farming solutions, utilising state-of-the-art IoT technologies to offer farmers reliable and practical tools. We're dedicated to simplifying agricultural processes, helping farmers optimise yields and foster sustainable practices through innovative, user-friendly solutions.     More specifically, we are in search of a dedicated IoT Engineer with a strong background in full-stack development, including expertise in hardware, software, and firmware. As a critical player in our team, you will take charge of developing an advanced automated irrigation system that leverages cutting-edge cellular communication technologies such as LoRaWAN, NB-IoT, and CAT-M1. If you have a passion for leveraging technology to foster sustainable agriculture, this role provides a ground-breaking opportunity to build a legacy in innovation.

    The incumbent will also work closely with Cisco Chair of AI and IoT Professor Wei Xiang, as well as academics affiliated with the Cisco-La Trobe Centre for AI and IoT and the School of Computing, Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (SCEMS).

    The incumbent will have flexibility to be based in LTU's Bundoora campus, as well as spending part of his/her time in Aglantis's Townsville office. The incumbent will have access to office accommodation, lab and computing facilities offered by the Cisco-La Trobe Centre for AI and Internet of Things.

    Skills and Experience

    To be considered for this position, you will have

    • Completed a Bachelor or Masters degree in a relevant field.
    • Evidence of competence in the fields of AI and the Internet of Things.
    • Strong IoT software and/or hardware skills.
    • Past examples of relevant projects and technologies you have worked with.
    • An ability to work effectively under limited supervision or independently.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with people from a diverse range of backgrounds, particularly those involved in manufacturing.
    • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team and lead collaborative research in a cooperative and collegial manner.
    • Demonstrated high level of self-motivation and personal management skills.
