The Role

Reporting to the Director, the EL1 Assistant Director will be working closely with technical team and other teams in the section, leads to set direction, manage priorities, and develop delivery methods to ensure continuous delivery of outcomes for the organisation.

The primary focus is to lead a technical team who are responsible for production support and project delivery for the section's information management platforms.


This includes:

  • Working with business stakeholders to deliver projects,
  • Leading an Agile development team comprised of both APS personnel and contractors,
  • Providing leadership and governance in the section, including supporting and building section culture and capability, and
  • Corporate leadership by supporting the branch and its business stakeholders to achieve organisational outcomes, assist in advising and influencing strategic decisions, and building organisational capability (through people and processes) and culture.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the EL1 position may include:

  • Project management for the implementation of the new projects, including developing relevant project artefacts.
  • Ongoing management of projects in an Agile way according to the Department's delivery framework.
  • Communicating project expectations with stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
  • Actively participating in a collaborative team environment, providing leadership and management of a multidisciplinary team of technical specialists.
  • Fostering a performance culture by coaching and mentoring staff, supporting career development, and effectively managing under performance.
  • Providing support to the Director, as required.
