We have an opportunity for a Team Lead - Environmental Technical Advisory.

You will lead a team of environmental professionals to provide cross discipline technical and strategic advice including, and not limited to, regulatory environmental approval strategies navigating appropriate State and Commonwealth Environmental policy, specialist environmental impact assessment and ecological advice, and the provision of geospatial and project planning services.

This highly technical environmental team supports continuous environmental performance improvements in the design, construction and operation of Water Corporation assets in alignment with Water Corporation Corporate Strategy Thrive 2035.

As a leader within the Environmental Business Unit and reporting to the Manager, Environmental Approvals, Regulation and Performance Section, this role will partner with Section Managers and Team Leaders across the business to shape environmental outcomes throughout the life of our regulated water service assets.


You'll step into a highly capable team of energetic professionals from various environmental disciplines providing advice and technical quality assurance across the wide range of design, operational and governance processes associated with water service assets.


As a proven leader, you will ensure your team successfully engages and communicates with internal and external stakeholders to influence and guide environmental performance outcomes for both new projects and existing operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute environmental management project strategy across the full project life cycle in Water Corporation assets.
  • Provide high quality advice, guidance, quality assurance and control and support navigating State and Commonwealth environmental legislation and associated legal instruments, associated with desalination, water sourcing, pipelines, wastewater treatment and disposal within terrestrial and marine environments across Western Australia.
  • Support the management of change for new environmental compliance obligations and legislation changes, including effective communication to stakeholders.
  • Lead a team of consultants/team members to undertake Environmental Impact Assessment Studies and to deliver approvals are obtained within required timeframes.
  • Lead and implement strategic process improvements to enhance the environmental service offering and support to the business.
  • Support improvements to the EMS, including the development of standards and procedures, to ensure the Corporation meets its environmental management objectives under Thrive 203
  • Lead the provision of Geospatial services to the Environmental Business Unit for Environmental project delivery and collaborate with geospatial services across the wider business.
  • Lead the provision of project scheduling of Environment project delivery and collaboration with project schedules across the wider business.

Skills and experience

  • Demonstrated experience in dealing developing project with project approvals, Environmental Impact Assessment and the development of management plans;
  • Considerable knowledge of relevant State and Commonwealth legislation associated with environmental management in the water industry (particularly the Environmental Protection Act 1986 and the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999).
  • Demonstrated experience in securing project outcomes aligned with corporate objectives through working with multidisciplinary teams within and external to your organisation including with Government stakeholders.
