About the role:

Rabobank's Credit Risk team has a 12-month fixed-term opening for a Credit Approvals Manager - Country Banking. This is an individual contributor role reporting to the Senior Manager, Credit Approvals. This role can be based in East Coast Australia locations with Rabobank offices such as Sydney, Brisbane, or Melbourne.


The Credit Approvals Manager role within Credit Risk Management Australia is an independent pro-active risk management role within the second line of defence.

The main responsibility is to oversee the credit granting process as it relates to Country Banking business. The role includes transaction approval within delegated authority under the Credit Risk Approval Framework.


The Credit Approvals Manager challenges the first line of defence & engages with Second / Third line colleagues on a timely & proactive basis to achieve & maintain a high-quality portfolio by reducing credit & operational losses, ensuring that risks (financial & non-financial) are properly identified & addressed & that trends are recognised & acted upon.


The Credit Approvals Manager, Country Banking engages with the business at a transaction level providing initial risk input & deciding upon / providing advice to approving authorities on submissions.


Top Role Accountabilities:


  • Responsible for second line transactional engagement with the Country Banking business from origination through to approval. Ensure that risks are properly identified & clients & transactions fit the risk appetite whilst acting as a decision maker within delegated authority
  • Independently forms an opinion on the acceptability of the risk, in terms of credit, structure, legal, tax & commercial aspects, to ensure high quality & timely decisions are made to facilitate an effective approval process
  • Detecting changes in the internal & external context, including changes to risk criteria & the risk itself which can require revision of risk treatments ^ priorities (Risk Appetite Statement, Policies & Procedures)
  • Engage within other Risk Departments & Risk Officers to ensure quality of decision taking, portfolio management & adequate engagement with 1st line business & other stakeholders across other departments

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Prior experience in a similar role, with exposure to the credit decisioning process.
  • Exposure to either lending into the Rural/Agricultural or Middle Market Commercial sectors preferred
  • A thorough understanding of Credit Risk Management within the financial services industry & related regulatory standards (ECB, APRA).
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal & written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate all outcomes / decisions confidently & empathetically
