We currently have an exciting rewarding opportunity for a Subcontract Manager within our Maritime Australiaprogram. This role can bebased either in Osborne, South Australia or Melbourne, Victoria.

Your new role:


Reporting to the Senior Subcontract Manager, you will be responsible to manage the major subcontracts of combat systems to meet the project requirement of cost, quality and delivery through effective commercial management whilst facilitating strong engaging relationship with the supplier, their supply chains as well as internal stakeholders.

This includes driving the implementation of BAE Systems subcontract policies and practices including the assurance of adherence to function governance requirements.

More specifically, you will

  • Lead the development of procurement strategies which balance the head contract principles of mínimal change and maximisation of Australian industry capability
  • Contribute to the development of a professional subcontract capability and establish relationships with the OEMs to enable deep understanding of the long term program requirements
  • Develop and executive negotiation strategies cognisant of supplier positioning, head contract obligation, identified risk and opportunities cost, quality and schedule requirements
  • Work in partnership with Australian Industry Capability (AIC) to support the development of contractible subcontractor AIC plans
  • Provide guidance to the business and projects on compliance with contract, corporate Australian government and foreign government requirements for management of intellectual property, controlled technology, confidential information and classified data
  • Effectively manage subcontract change and ensure that emerging risks are identified, costed, monitored and managed
  • Proactively manage the performance of suppliers and implement business systems, processes and internal controls to ensure legislative compliance
About you


As an ideal applicant for this opportunity, you'll have:

  • Demonstrated experience in subcontract, procurement or commercial management preferably in defence or engineering organisations
  • Strong commercial acumen and analytical skill with an experience in contract negotiation in defence or related industries
  • Welldevelopment leadership experience, strong communicator with an ability to engage effectively with wide range of stakeholders and customers with an ability to show initiative, prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Well versed in the development of negotiation of contract with track record of successful delivery of key supplier obligations and working experience in large complex programs
Whilst, not essential, degree qualification in commerce, law, project management, engineering with professional procurement qualification like MCIPS accreditation or equivalent in relevant discipline is desirable
