About the role:


Reporting to Manager Early Years and Youth you will have the opportunity to drive your passion in fulfilling Council's role in delivering high quality services and strategic planning to improve the health, wellbeing, safety, participation and development of its youngest citizens and families in Merri-bek.

To be successful in this role, you will be a strategic thinker with a community and customer focus.

You will have a record of achievement in operational and staff management, service and program development and delivery, strategic planning, partnership development and advocacy.


With qualifications in Maternal and Child Health or other relevant field and senior leadership experience in local government, public sector or the health and human service sectors you will demonstrate first rate people management skills and an ability to support, mentor and develop a highly committed and talented team in the planning and delivery of Maternal and Child Health and Immunisation Services and a range of programs and initiatives to support the health, wellbeing and development of babies, young children and their families in Merri-bek.

You will have experience in program/service planning and a proven track record in driving continuous quality improvement.

You will have high level analytical and interpersonal communication skills, with an ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups and also take the lead in building strategic partnerships, capitalising on opportunities and driving innovation within Maternal and Child Health and Immunisation Services.

Skills and experience require to perform the role:

  • Demonstrated understanding of Child Safety and Wellbeing requirements and how this applies in the role of Unit Manager Maternal and Child Health and Immunisation and the various settings in which the services operate.
  • Significant experience in managing health or related services, programs and projects including demonstrated skills in strategic and business planning.
  • Commitment to providing high quality, culturally relevant services and experience in driving continuous improvement processes.
  • Proven experience and skills in financial, operational and staff management and a proven capacity to lead and support a team consistent with Council's values.
