About the Role


The role of the Asset Planning Specialist is to ensure our locomotive and wagon assets are planned in for maintenance at our facilities and are kept in a serviceable state to support the effective and safe delivery of all of our planned services for our customers.


The Asset Planning Specialist has key accountability for the effective planning of all rollingstock (Locomotive and wagon) maintenance within a dedicated portfolio.


Primary responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Working with our internal and external (third party) maintenance stakeholders to align our Asset's maintenance requirements with their labour and facility availability across a time horizon of 24 hours out to a month to ensure optimal business performance
  • Replanning planned maintenance events that were unable to be completed on dayofoperations due to disruption and incidents
  • Rescheduling maintenance activities to ensure compliance with maintenance standards
  • Updating our Transport and Fleet Management System's as required with necessary information
  • Arranging effective & efficient deployment of our asset and labour resources to meet the customer service plan and allow maximum asset utilisation and availability
  • Monitoring and scheduling our rolling asset maintenance regimes and adjusting events to make the best use of our available maintainer and facility resources
  • Working with the broader short term planning team (Labour Planners, Train Service Specialists) to ensure we are delivering an integrated plan to our Service Delivery (Day of Operations) team
  • Working closely with the Service Delivery (Day of Operations) team and Depot Operations team to leverage their experience to create the most robust and executable maintenance plan possible
  • Consistently seeking feedback where required to allow you to continue to improve the quality, efficiency, and ease of execution of your plans

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Previous experience in maintenance and/or asset planning/scheduling is highly regarded
  • The proven ability to find and/or create efficiency in given plans or schedules
  • Experience in heavy industry/transport/military or other industry where heavy vehicles are deployed is highly regarded
  • Relevant demonstrated experience in the planning/service delivery aspect of complex rail operations (desirable)
  • A basic understanding of Electrical/Mechanical/Pneumatic systems to increase comprehension in technical discussions regarding assets and restrictions is advantageous
  • Proven ability to develop, leverage and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders is critical
