Capella Sydney is collaborating with Brent Savage and Nick Hildebrandt of The Bentley Group on the imagining of Brasserie 1930.

The landmark restaurant lies within the heritage-listed Department of Education building, reawakening in March 2023 as Capella Sydney.


Located in the historic Sandstone Precinct of Sydney's CBD, anchored to the Young Street shoulder of the transformed site, Brasserie 1930 captures the essence of a traditional brasserie, delivered through a contemporary Australian lens.

Dovetailing a sophisticated design approach with meticulously restored architectural features.


Position Summary


The Restaurant Host warmly greets and seats guests entering the restaurant and is able to assist them with their reservation enquiries.

The individual is responsible for coordinating and communicating important information with the relevant departments in relations to reservations and special events.


The Role

  • Proactively welcomes and acknowledges each and every guest with a smile, eye contact, and a warm verbal greeting, using the guest's name when possible.
  • Be an exemplary role model in inspiriting team members through strong demonstration of the Capella Culture and Service Philosophy.
  • Answer phones and take dining reservations from guests, ask and record preferences or special requests/occasions, and relay this information to kitchen colleagues or management.
  • Maintain an uptodate knowledge of the hotel daily services, activities, promotion, and event. Effectively communicate and update all team members on any changes to ensure guests receive uptodate information.
  • Ensures smooth running of the outlet by managing customer flow among the service sections, taking into account requests for a particular table or section, depending on availability and operating standards.
  • Liaise with the F&B coordinator to update and print menu periodically to ensure they are current, clean, plentiful, and wrinklefree or as directed by managers.
  • Maintains strong working relationships with other departments to ensure effective communications for operational issues, serves as a role model for interdepartmental collaboration and support.
  • Maintains confidentiality of proprietary materials and information.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas throughout the day, practicing cleanasyougo procedures.
  • Ensures opening and closing checklist are completed on a daily basis.

Talent Profile

  • Prior experience in similar role/capacity is ideal.
  • Good organisation and administration skills preferred.
  • Working knowledge of restaurant systems (Seven Rooms) is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent communicator with personable character and a passion in guest relations management.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • Valid working rights in Australia.
