    Job Description

    Our Pact Packaging division is pioneering a whole of product life cycle approach to sustainable packaging. Partnering with global brands to local dairy producers, we integrate supply chain efficiencies and sustainable practices into everything we design and manufacture.

    About this opportunity

    Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Fitter is a key member of the Site based team. The Fitter will provide hands on support on all aspects of maintenance and upkeep of all manufacturing assets, the maintenance budget, managing contractors and helping execute strategies to enhance the performance of the maintenance function and related assets.

    The Fitter will contribute towards the sites reliability, maximizing asset utilization whilst ensuring that all equipment is maintained to comply with all statutory requirements and the highest possible WHSE standards. This position will drive the continuous improvement of all maintenance to support operational improvement goals.

    Day to day management of the machinery, preventative maintenance, breakdown maintenance and problem solving will be the main duties performed to keep the operation working effectively.

    The Fitter will build and maintain a collaborative relationship between maintenance and production, ensuring effective support to the Area Managers and their teams in executing safety, quality and operational improvements. Coordination with the production team for any downtime will be pivotal to this role.

    This role will require adequate planning and consideration to an inventory of spare parts and future repairs.

    Your key responsibilities will be to

    • Work closely with Maintenance and Quality teams to troubleshoot issues and maintain plant production capability
    • Perform Root Cause Analysis on all critical failures of plant and ensure action items derived are implemented and sustained
    • Actively support the implementation of capital projects
    • Demonstrate genuine safety-first leadership, leading by example
    • Foster continuous improvement to ensure compliance with policy, guidelines and better practice frameworks
    • Ensuring adherence to WHSE standards from installation, commissioning and ongoing operations
    • Implement and manage continuous improvement principals by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in training, workplace practices and processes
    • Ensuring reliability and maintainability of all equipment is at or above target levels
    • Plan and manage all maintenance work effectively with production, ensuring minimal disruption and downtime as possible
    • Conduct route cause analysis and investigations of safety incidents, environmental incidents, and breakdowns. Provide reports and recommendations on key learnings to Site Manager as required
    • Assess critical assets on an ongoing basis and implement defined actions to mitigate or minimise business risk
    • Planning and executing shutdowns

    • The successful candidate is highly results-oriented and focused on bringing strategies to implementation. S/he is energized by a challenge and able to set and deliver against goals both for self and for a team. Importantly, s/he will have a track-record of delivering change in complex environments overcoming unexpected roadblocks. S/he will have the demonstrated ability to develop clear plans, set milestones and define what a good end result looks like.

    Motivating stakeholders across the value chain

    • The successful candidate will be a strong, collaborative communicator, able to build relationships effectively. S/he should be able to present ideas discerningly and openly with the ability to influence and marshal buy-in from colleagues at all levels, including P&L owners. He or she will have experience at facilitating trade-off decisions and pushing back, where necessary. The candidate will also have demonstrated a customer focus.

    Problem solving

    • The successful candidate will be able to problem solve when presented with mechanical issues, working with production to resolve issues in an efficient manner that his minimal disruption to production.

    Qualifications

    Education & Qualifications

    • Mechanical trade qualifications
    • Restricted or full electrical license desirable but not essential
    • 5-10 years in a similar position
    • Experience in hydraulic and pneumatic plant and equipment
    • Superior communication skills. (from shop floor to leadership team)
    • Demonstrated ability in managing a preventative maintenance schedule
    • Proven ability to problem solve for emergency maintenance and repair

    Capabilities:

    • Maintain machinery of similar scale and complexity
    • Create and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule
    • Experience with, or in, complex industrial companies/industries
    • Australia / New Zealand experience
    • Lean operations experience
