Attendance for this position is LPA (leave purchase allowance) of 30 days - 52/5- The Maintenance position's primary function at Goonawarra Primary School is to ensure that the school's buildings and grounds are well maintained and presented and that all work undertaken complies with statutory obligations and Department Standards.


  • The maintenance position's roll in the school community is to be able to communicate effectively and develop a good working relationship with staff members, students, and contractors at all levels.
  • The maintenance position will undertake personal development opportunities to enhance the position.
  • The maintenance person is required to work flexibly and reliably within tight timelines and with mínimal direction in a team environment.
  • It is important the maintenance person operates in a professional, courteous, efficient manner always, respecting confidentiality.
  • The maintenance person supports the school staff with the planning and implementation of maintenance services.

Responsibilities:


  • Assist with manual tasks such as lifting and moving furniture and equipment and assist with setting up for school events. This may involve heavy lifting in accordance with the OH&S guidelines.
  • Ensure gutters and downpipes are working effectively.
  • Manage the use and maintenance of equipment within the work area
  • Ensure security is maintained within the work area
  • Work as part of a team to ensure that all OH & S requirements are met
  • An ability to work independently with confidence and initiative, including prioritising workloads
  • Liaise with Facilities Manager & Business Manager on completed works and as required
  • Attend Grounds, Building & Maintenance meetings as required
  • Assist with undertaking general maintenance and minor works on occasions
  • Coordinate, organise and determine work priorities within a clearly defined functional area e.g. maintenance/upgrades
  • Coordinate contractors, adhering to OHS requirements
  • Have a competent ability in and knowledge of building and carpentry, human resource skills, First Aid and strong decision and time management abilities.
  • Provides supervision, guidance and support to other support staff

School Profile
Goonawarra Primary School in Sunbury was established in 1987 to service the Goonawarra and Rolling Meadows Estates.

The 2023 enrolment of 380 students is accommodated in 19 classes. The staff is comprising of 2 at Principal Class level, 27 teachers and 20 Education Support Staff.


The school is set on four hectares of grassed open space with three large adventure playground areas and attractive gardens and outside facilities.

The architecturally designed original school building, which is 32 years old, has many unique features. This building is complemented by the new BER construction which contains six modern classrooms.

In addition to the classrooms there is a gymnasium, computer lab available to all students, Visual and Performing Arts venue, a Science and Technology room and a spacious, well equipped, child friendly library.

All classrooms have their own interactive whiteboard and have access to notepads and iPads.
