As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.


Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland.

The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service (SES), and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.

Purpose of the role


Talent Acquisition is the central point of contact for the department's talent acquisition activities and to operationalise the attraction, selection and recruitment strategy through the effective delivery of modern and contemporary recruitment practices and services that support an inclusive, diverse and capable pool of talent to meet organisational objectives and fulfil operational requirements.


Reporting to the Director, Strategy and Services, you will be responsible for leading and managing a multi-disciplinary team, within the appropriate financial and human resource delegations, and will drive the development, implementation and review of modern and contemporary talent acquisition practices, policy and procedures to meet whole-of-government initiatives and departmental strategic objectives.

  • Knowledge, experience or qualifications in human resource management or similar discipline.
  • Experience or qualifications in business or relevant discipline.
Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

  • Lead and oversee functions of end-to-end recruitment, and the implementation of the department's talent acquisition initiatives and programs to support business operations and meet organisational requirements.
  • Develop innovative attraction, selection and recruitment strategies, processes and practices including evaluation methodologies to support service delivery and build workforce capability.
  • Provide highquality strategic and independent advice on issues of policy, legislation, budget, and crossagency and interjurisdictional engagement relating to talent acquisition.
  • Build and sustain partnerships and networks with key internal and external stakeholders to assist with meeting organisational objectives in relation to the acquisition of an inclusive, diverse and capable pool of talent.
  • Undertake highlevel research, analysis and evaluation of current and emerging recruitment issues and trends, identifying potential risks and issues likely to impact the strategic direction of the department and provide solutions.
  • Prepare and review complex reports, briefing notes, submissions and other correspondence to support the delivery of human resource policy and recruitment strategy outcomes, in accordance with organisational guidelines.
  • Plan and manage complex projects and initiatives in accordance with best practice methodologies and ensure they are delivered on time, on budget as meet business requirements.
  • Lead and manage the functions of the team through effective human resource, and financial management practices, including developing staff through performance, planning and review.
