Reporting to the Exhibitions and Collections Coordinator, the Collections Assistant will provide administrative support and assistance with research, exhibition content, maintaining the collection database, responding to public enquires, digitisation, collection stocktake and assisting internal staff to access the collection where appropriate.

They will keep accurate records and take responsibility for meeting deadlines. The Collection Officer will also perform the duties of a Visitor Experience Host if required.


The Collection Officer will have an opportunity to learn and participate in all aspects of the Museum, Education and Visitor Services activities to broaden their skills and abilities.


The duties of this position include:

  • Providing administrative support including updating and maintaining the collection database.
  • Undertaking a stocktake of the National Coin Collection assets and ensure items are accurately recorded, stored and accessible.
  • Undertaking research regarding the collection for exhibitions and programs.
  • Assisting internal staff to access the collection as needed.
  • Performing the duties of a Visitor Experience host as required, including presenting educational offerings, public programs, interacting with visitors and assisting with the greeting desk.
  • Where required, provide administrative support to the broader Museum, Education and Visitor Services Team at the request of the Manager, Public Engagement.
  • Understanding and complying with all workplace health and safety responsibilities, including undertaking the duties of an emergency warden.
  • Undertaking other duties as required.
