About the Commissioner for Children and Young People


The South Australian Commissioner for Children and Young People (CCYP) is an independent statutory authority established under the _Children and Young People (Oversight and Advocacy Bodies)_ Act 2016 _("the Act").

_

The Commissioner promotes and advocates for the rights, development and wellbeing of all children and young people in South Australia, particularly those who are vulnerable and at-risk.

The Act sets out the Commissioner's role including advocating and promoting children and young people's participation in the making of decisions that affect their lives.

The Act specifically requires the Commissioner to advise and make recommendations to Ministers, State authorities and other bodies (including non-Government bodies), undertake and commission research, and prepare and publish reports on matters related to the rights, development and wellbeing of South Australia's children and young people at the systemic level.


Role Responsibilities and Key Outcomes

Communications Production

  • Produce digital content and manage multiple CCYP social media channels and create digital assets to support key messages
  • Write, edit and design material on issues impacting children and young people for dissemination to a wide audience
  • Build CCYP's online footprint and grow social media
  • Assess and regularly report on online analytics to drive reach and communications
  • Implement engagement strategies fit for children and young people and in line with the UNCRC and "5 Rights" strategy.
  • Maintain effective records, data, file management and document storage, including CRM, mail distribution and other records.
  • Implement engagement strategies to increase awareness of and engagement with CDC and the Space to Dream travelling exhibition

Key Capabilities

Essential:


  • Significant experience in management of digital platforms, websites, social media, electronic newsletters or similar online media
  • Demonstrated highlevel verbal and written communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to determine priorities, meet tight deadlines and produce high standard work under pressure
  • Knowledge of current digital best practices
  • Ability to use Microsoft suite of software, virtual meeting and collaboration tools
  • Knowledge of guidelines relating to government websites, accessibility and other web standards
  • Demonstrated ability to plan strategically and work effectively, both independently and within teams, to achieve agreed outcomes
  • Solutionorientated mindset and proven ability to address challenges and solve problems that require a high level of critical thinking, creativity and resourcefulness

Desirable:


  • Ability to use digital creation and editing software and tools
  • An understanding of the role of the CCYP as a statutory authority, including knowledge of the legislation, Government of South Australia communication protocols, Strategic Plan priorities for the organisation, and committee structures


The role will be offered as a 10 month, part time contract 0.6 FTE open for negotiation and flexibility, with the view to extend.

Applicants will need a valid Working With Children Check and Reporting to Abuse and Neglect Training or must be willing to obtain them.
