About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Program Manager to join the Primary Care Clinical Trials Unit in the Department of General Practice.

The position will be responsible for supervising a distributed team across Australia, in one of the newly established networks, Partner Network.


PARTNER has been funded through the MRFF as an infrastructure initiative that will establish a network of 90 rural general practices across Australia to improve access to clinical trials for Australians living in rural and remote areas.

As Program Manager, you will help lead the day-today operations of the PARTNER network ensuring we meet our contractual milestones and deliverables to our funding bodies, while being an integral member of the Primary Care Trials Unit.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working with team leads, manage all aspects of the PARTNER Network including monitoring of the budget, managing staff including allocation and coordination of tasks, scheduling meetings, establishing deliverables and deadlines.
  • Develop new processes for work to improve efficiency and operations across the Primary Care Trials Unit and the PARTNER Network.
  • Lead the development and operationalisation of strategic and engagement plans for the PARTNER Network.

Who We Are Looking For

To be successful in this role you will be an experienced team leader with excellent communication skills, which will enable you to develop and maintain strong collaborative partnerships.

You will also be highly adaptable and be able to quickly learn and implement new concepts and drive continuous improvement.


You will also have:

  • Degree qualifications in a relevant field with at least 4 years subsequent relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience and relevant skills in program administration, financial and business management, demonstrated in higher education, healthcare, or a similar complex environment.
  • Demonstrated highlevel of analytical and problemsolving skills in a health or related setting.

Your New Team - Department of General Practice
The Department of General Practice originated as a unit within the Department of Community Medicine in 1977.

It was established as a separate department within the School of Medicine in 2001 and established the Primary Care Research Unit (PCRU) as a centre of excellence in primary care research, research training and knowledge exchange in 2006.

The Department has 68 (full time equivalent) staff supported by an operating budget of $7 million and research income of approximately $11 million annually.


With an increased profile within the Melbourne Medical School, the Department has utilised its growing network of general practitioners (GPs) and primary health care providers in the community to ensure that University of Melbourne medical students are provided with quality community-based medical education.

The Department delivers postgraduate training for primary care nurses, and research training for medical, honours, masters (4) and PhD students (18).
