Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) is an integrated transport infrastructure and precincts planning project that will deliver a 90km rail line linking every major train service from the Frankston Line to the Werribee Line via Melbourne Airport, as well as investment in the suburbs, better connecting Victorians to jobs, retail, education, health services and each other.

Suburban Rail Loop Authority (SRLA) is the statutory body established to plan all elements of the project, procure builders, develop structure planning for SRL Precincts and oversee construction and the other changes that will help transform Melbourne and Victoria.

SRL is more than a rail project.

About the opportunity:


The Policy Advisor, Economic Development will play a key role in providing authoritative advice and supporting the development of policy in relation to the precincts within the Suburban Rail Loop program, focusing on the economic development of precincts.


The successful applicant will have experience in policy development and ability to quickly engage with new content areas in a rapidly changing environment, be an effective communicator and be able to maintain positive working relationships.

As an Adviser in this fast‐paced and collaborative environment, you will:

  • Support the development of advice and policy/planning projects in an economic development context
  • Conduct research and analysis
  • Prepare high quality briefs and reports
  • Work with a range of internal and external stakeholders

Key accountabilities:


  • Contribute to the development of policy options to support the planning, investment and delivery of jobs, services and infrastructure in the Suburban Rail Loop's precincts
  • Undertake economic policy research and analysis, including working collaboratively with specialist consultants or drawing on expertise across departments
  • Prepare briefs, reports and policy papers to communicate issues and recommendations to senior management
  • Support components of successful project delivery, including preparing project plans, project reports, briefing materials and presentations, and contribute to effective project performance monitoring and continuous improvement processes in relation to government policies, objectives, priorities and reporting requirements
  • Establish and maintain highly effective working relationships
  • Work flexibly and collaboratively with limited supervision to deliver Suburban Rail Loop project priorities and initiatives as required
