Overview
Primary Purpose of the Position
Responsible for the care and maintenance of animals and preparing equipment and materials required for staff. Demonstrating the use of equipment/instruments and techniques in laboratories, classrooms and workshops to educational staff.
This is an excellent opportunity for those who have qualifications in Animal Care with at least 3 years animal care experience; this could be a vet nurse or someone who has worked at a shelter or pound or a university.
The role is 2-3 days per week.Key accountabilities/responsibilities
Producing teaching aids to assist with practical assessment tasks, demonstrations and theory classes to support direct educational delivery.
Responsible for the care and maintenance of animals/livestock relevant to the section in accordance with animal welfare ethics.
Preparing equipment and materials required by students and staff for the conduct of classes and coordinating work priorities.
Providing specific technical expertise in the employee's area of competency relevant to the section needs.
Demonstrating the use of equipment/instruments and techniques in laboratories, classrooms and workshops to educational staff.
Developing and writing standard operating procedures (SOP's) for support staff tasks undertaken in the section.
Assist with the ordering and receiving of consumables, minor plant and equipment required by section.
Distributing and collecting equipment and materials for the conduct of classes.
Maintaining, servicing and operating equipment and instruments within the section area as required.
Undertaking or arranging where necessary specialist repairs and maintenance to equipment.
Assist with the security of tools, equipment, materials and other TAFE property within a section.
Carrying out general housekeeping associated with areas used in class service, including the staff disposal of equipment and materials.
Performing risk identification, undertaking assessments and identifying controls within the area of responsibility relating to support staff tasks.
Processing documentation relevant to the section and position.
Selection Criteria
Appropriate Trades Certificate IV or Relevant Diploma with at least 3 years' experience and with demonstrated capacity for the type of work involved or other qualifications and experience deemed equivalent.
Proven ability to identify and maintain tools, equipment and machinery used within the area of employment including the ability to detect faults.
Ability to use a computer and knowledge of software packages relevant to the area of employment.Demonstrated ability to work independently and as an effective team member.
Demonstrated high level communication, organisational and customer service skills.
