HOBAN Recruitment are currently seeking to engage experienced Horticulturists for an exciting opportunity in beautiful Local Council grounds in Mount Annan.

This is the perfect opportunity to develop your knowledge and experience in Horticulture working with experts in the field.

The Horticulturist is responsible for the completion of work tasks within the Horticulture portfolio. This involves completing a range of technical tasks associated with a horticultural maintenance of garden bed areas.


Day to day duties include:


  • Working autonomously to conduct duties to a Horticulturist trade level.
  • Working with Labourer, Horticultural apprentices to coordinate work tasks to safe working standards and deliver to agreed deadlines
  • Prioritising and conducting work tasks in various living collections onsite.
  • Diagnose plant health and pathogen issues and treat accordingly using Integrated pest management techniques.
  • Use of small tools and equipment including hand blowers, backpack blowers, pruning saw, secateurs, hedge trimmers etc
  • Effectively communicating updates and issues to Senior Horticulturalist/Supervisor
  • Maintenance of garden beds including; Weeding, fertilising, pruning, hedging, mulching
  • Planting annual displays and other plants relevant to native collections onsite
  • Leaf blowing of roads, pathways, picnic areas including removal of litter
  • Hand watering and setting up of sprinklers and irrigation systems.
  • Assisting ad hoc with duties relevant to the portfolio
  • ChemCert desirable

What do you need?

  • Experience in park and garden maintenance
  • Certificate III in either Horticulture or Parks & Gardens or equivalent qualifications with experience in the maintenance of horticultural displays, pest and disease control, weed management, plant nutrition and irrigation control and in the maintenance and use of all associated plant and equipment.
  • Current driver's licence with the ability to drive manual vehicles and willingness to undertake fieldwork for extended periods of time and have the ability to lift and carry a minimum 15 kilos.
  • Ability to work outside of normal working hours and on weekends if required.
  • Full Drivers Licence and the ability to operate manual vehicles.
  • Ability to operate all relevant Horticulture equipment safely and effectively.
  • Ability to lift 15kgs.
