The Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) has diverse responsibilities for transport systems and services, infrastructure planning and provision within South Australia.


Duties

The Fabrication Tradeperson works in a dynamic and collaborative environment, reporting tothe Morgan Dockyard Supervisor in Commercial Marine and State Waters Section, and providing critical maintenance and fabrication works supporting the River Murray Ferry Fleet.

The role is based at the Morgan Dockyard, but travel is necessary to attend 12 ferry crossings from Lyrup to Narrung.


Key activities include maintaining plant/equipment, undertaking critical fabrication functions (including minor mechanical and hydraulic), assessing and organising labour, tools, materials and equipment where required, contribution to high standard of customer service and contribution to the ferry programs (e.g.

maintenance and refurbishment).


The incumbent will also be responsible for undertaking call outs, maintaining records, preparing reports, mentorship (apprentices), leading/guiding other trades and external contractors and liaison with suppliers/ (public).

Marine Services is comprised of 3 sections: Marine Assets, Marine Safety and Commercial Marine and State Waters.

Requirements:


  • Current driver's license;
  • An AQF Level 4 National Certificate in Fabrication Stream or equivalent
  • Class HR License (or willingness to obtain one);
  • White Card (or willingness to obtain one);
  • Recreational Boat License (or willingness to obtain one);
  • Vehicle Loading Crane HRW license (or willingness to obtain one);
  • Forklift Truck HRW license (or willingness to obtain one);
  • Elements of Shipboard Safety Certificate (or willingness to obtain one);
  • Coxswain Grade 2 NC (or willingness to obtain one); and
  • Confined Space License (or willingness to obtain one)

Special Conditions

  • The tradesperson undertaking the role is required to be available for an oncall roster arrangement in which they are available to perform afterhours call outs for ferry repairs;
  • Some out of hours and weekend work may be required;
  • Some intra / interstate travel may be required including overnight absences;
  • Position is based at the Morgan Dockyard
  • Responsible Tradesperson (M7) equates to (M6) pay level.

Tenure of Vacancy
Temporary appointment up to 2 years


Remuneration
M7 (Responsible trade) - $1,593.72 to $1,627.16 per week
