Your new role


As a Technical Specialist working as part of the Laboratory Services Team, you will provide high-level, specialised support for the conduct and continuous improvement of teaching laboratories in the discipline of Clinical Biochemistry, including significant hands-on laboratory duties.


You will be an active member of our laboratory team providing leadership and supervision of other team members involved with biochemistry as well as back-up for other Technical Specialists as needed.

Amongst other duties, you will be responsible for managing relevant consumable stocks, informing decisions around specialised equipment procurement and maintenance as well as maintaining a range of documentation for laboratory procedures.


Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership: Offer technical guidance, training support, and procedural assistance to students and staff.

Innovative Development: Research, conceptualise, and evaluate innovative techniques to improve and develop laboratory classes.

Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure all staff and students complete Safety Inductions, adhere to Health and Safety protocols, and maintain standard operating procedures for all lab activities.

Laboratory Preparation: Plan and prepare materials and resources for teaching activities in Biochemistry.

Oversight and Instruction: Provide technical oversight, instruction, and scientific guidance to staff and students during classes.

Equipment Management: Maintain general and specialised laboratory equipment, ensuring proper safety checks, servicing, calibration, and repairs. Frequent/ Constant Handling and movement of equipment and materials between laboratories and buildings.

Professional Development: Engage in professional development programs to stay current with operational and technical advances in the discipline.


We are looking for:


  • Effective communicator capable of offering clear guidance to students and staff.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing technical leadership and supervision in a laboratory setting.
  • Strong background in Clinical Biochemistry and familiarity with teaching laboratory procedures.

About us
The Curtin Medical School is one of four schools in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The school was formed in 2021 by the merger of the previous Curtin Medical School, School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences and the School of Medical Radiation Sciences.

The school trains a range of health professionals through accredited BSc courses.

This position is based within our Medical School, however you may also have the opportunity to work in related areas across the faculty.
