They a seeking an experienecd Accounting Assistant

$30-35 p/h M-F 8.30am

  • 5.00pm 5 Week Contract

Purpose of the position

The purpose of the position is to assist in the duties of accounts payable and to provide efficient accounting assistance in general accounting activities.

The position also assists with costing functions and assists in the maintenance and upkeep of Council's accounting systems controls. The position will also provide assistance to other sections within the Department as and when required.


Key Accountabilities
Accounts Payable

Maintain register of daily invoices received in corporate creditors system and distribute to authorized officers for approval.

Ensure that creditor payments are correctly approved and that all account allocations have been supplied by authorizing officers.

Compile, check and match invoices, orders and delivery dockets into batches for data entry, and balancing of same.

Process monthly lump sum contract invoices, ensuring payments do not exceed contract value, and obligations are met.


Print creditor cheques, reconcile and balance computer reports and prepare reports to Council for approval of cheque payments (if required).

Filing of payment vouchers.
Peruse all creditors statements (if required).

Assist in the maintenance and update of the creditors Masterfile in the corporate computer system.

Check non order type invoices for possible contract items.

Assist in the maintenance and update of the retention, trust and deposits registers.

Relieve the accounts payable officer in peak periods and leave absences.


General
Provide data input resources for the Department especially in peak periods.

Input of all general ledger journals and ensure updates are balanced.

Assist in the reconciliation of general ledger control accounts as delegated.

Process daily mail.


Gain familiarity with other sectional and department procedures relating to the accounting functions in order to assist with other routine clerical and accounting tasks as may be necessary.

Attend to all telephone and internal enquiries in a courteous and professional manner.


Qualifications and Experience
Accounting/book keeping background.

Some experience in accounts payable or accounts reconciliation function desirable


Key Selection Criteria
Working knowledge of accounting systems relevant to this position.

Previous experience in accounts payable or general bookkeeping.

Strong computer keyboard skills.

Current Police check required
