About the Opportunity
Bowral Hospital is recruiting for a Medical Secretary to complement and enhance the current Outpatient Department.

What You'll be Doing
Provide effective and efficient administrative support to the Bowral & District Hospital Outpatients department, Coordinating Outpatient clinic service. Ensure the provision of an effective secretarial support service for the Staff Specialist Physicians. Ensure ongoing quality improvement within this role, engaging with other service areas as appropriate.

This role will see the successful position holder provide contemporary comprehensive Medical Secretary abilities for Bowral and District Hospital.

Working in partnership with a dedicated team of experienced Midwives and Doctors, Medical Secretaries and other Administration staff who are passionate about the care provided to the community of the Southern Highlands.

Bowral & District Hospital is part of the South West Sydney Local Health District with strong and established networks to tertiary facilities of Campbelltown and Liverpool.


Bowral & District Hospital is a level 3 acute bed facility which provides a wide range of services including 24 hour Emergency Department, 2 x Operating Theatres plus a Procedures room, Day Surgery, Endoscopy, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Critical and Coronary Care, Maternity & Paediatrics.

The Hospital has established an excellent reputation in the community for its commitment to safe, quality patient care.


How to Apply
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria as thoroughly as possible.

  • Demonstrated high level experience in the provision of a full range of secretarial services, including previous experience in coordinating medical specialist clinic type services and managing billing practices in a medical outpatient setting;
  • Advanced skills required for dictaphone transcription and word processing, practical medical terminology skills also required;
  • Ability to carry out a variety of functions, which may be complex in nature and require judgment, excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Commitment to the provision of quality customer service to both internal and external customers
  • High level demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use of electronic patient administration and scheduling systems, MS Word, Outlook, and electronic schedules/data processing;
  • Ability to write reports, documents and correspondence, including drafting complex correspondence for senior medical staff, accurately and clearly.
  • Ability to work under limited direction and guidance, with high level organizational skills and the ability to prioritise and monitor work flow in the Outpatient Clinic.
