We are seeking motivated Closure and Environmental Liabilities Specialists at the Manager and Senior Consultant ranks to join the Climate Change and Sustainability Services team in Perth, Brisbane or Melbourne; with experience in providing technical advice regarding closure strategies, closure cost estimating, and closure implementation across the mining, oil and gas, and / or energy sectors.

Your key responsibilities:


  • Support our clients to manage their asset closure strategies and costs
  • Support EY's financial assurance teams to assess the reasonableness of closure plans and cost estimates that underlie our clients reported closure and environmental provisions.
  • Clearly communicate findings and recommendations to key internal and external stakeholders
  • Contribute to strategy, solutions, methodologies, analytical frameworks and tools to help clients succeed and navigate complex regulatory environments and manage stakeholder expectations associated with asset closures
  • Support ESG due diligence and sustainability assurance and advisory services, especially across the resources and other heavy industry sectors
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key business decisionmakers, both internally and externally
  • Identify and communicate trends, developments, and key performance drivers relevant to our clients, while demonstrating a deep understanding of asset closure, rehabilitation, and closure risks and opportunities
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team across a range of industries on environmental management related challenges

What we're looking for:

Here's our 'wish list' but don't worry if you don't tick all the boxes. We're interested in your strengths, what you want to learn, and how far you want to go.

  • Ability to understand complex risks associated with asset closure
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, cost estimating for the closure of large resources assets.
  • Strong excel skills particularly regarding cost models and rehabilitation calculators
  • Understanding of common asset closure techniques, materials, and equipment
  • Be able to transition from detailed to strategic levels
  • Tertiary degree in a related field, preferably Engineering, Environmental Sciences, and / or Finance or similar disciplines
  • Ability to think laterally and adapt previous experience and solutions to new projects.
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced, dynamic team and environment.
  • Strong technical analytical skills.
  • Outstanding project and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Ideally, you'll also have

  • Knowledge of closure policy, legislation, guidance and standards across Australia as well as a good understanding of the legislative trends relating to asset closure
  • Experience completing or participating in financial assurance processes, or
  • Experience working on operating sites.
