The Adolescent Medicine Department - Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Service at The Children's Hospital at Westmead has a vacant temporary Staff Specialist position of 0.2FTE.

The CICADA Centre NSW offers Care and Intervention for Children and Adolescents affected by Drugs and Alcohol.

A lifespan care approach, based in a tertiary paediatric hospital, is delivered through three clinical services:
the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Assessment Service, Family Service; and Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Service. Quality improvement, research, teaching and education are essential parts of the CICADA service.

The FASD Assessment Service is NSW-wide service that provides clinical assessment for children and adolescents with a history of prenatal alcohol exposure or whom a diagnosis of FASD is suspected.

This usually includes a developmental multidisciplinary assessment, formulation of a diagnostic report, and recommendations for ongoing support and intervention.

The service works closely with teams providing services to children exposed to substances during pregnancy, in out-of-home care, in rural and remote NSW, and in juvenile justice.

We offer a regular Baby Clinic and FASD-Track consultation service, education and training.

The Staff Specialist (Paediatrician) is responsible for:

Medical and developmental assessment, diagnosis, and development of a management plan for children and adolescents referred with a history of prenatal alcohol exposure or in whom the diagnosis of FASD is suspected.
Providing leadership to a multidisciplinary clinical team, including conducting case conferences, overseeing diagnostic assessments and management.
Delivery of clinical services in a coordinated, holistic and timely manner.
Collaboration with the CICADA Service, Department of Adolescent Medicine, Child Development and Child Protection Units within SCHN and child protection services.
Interagency collaboration with external service providers such as Department of Community and Justice, health services, education and nongovernment organisations.
Provision of excellent clinical services to children and their families as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Provision of Quality Improvement, education and training.
Abiding by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews for clinical services in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.
Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist in a paediatric subspecialty and/or other specialist recognition as provided in the Staff Specialist (State) Award and/or overseas trained specialist pathways
Demonstrated recent clinical experience in developmental and behavioural paediatrics and/or community child health including experience working in multidisciplinary developmental assessment teams.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
Demonstrated experience in assessment and diagnosis of FASD, and experience with vulnerable and priority populations.
Availability to participate in an oncall roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.
