The Victorian Government is upgrading the Eastern Freeway with new express lanes, new traffic management technology and Melbourne's first dedicated busway.

These changes will slash travel times and improve public transport in Melbourne's east.


Symal is part of the Eastern Freeway - Burke to Tram Alliance with Major Road Projects Victoria, Laing O'Rourke, Arcadis and WSP.

Our scope of work includes a new interchange connecting the Eastern Freeway to the North East Link tunnels, major road and bridge upgrades between Burke Road and Tram Road, smart traffic management technology upgrades and new noise protection to meet Victoria's toughest traffic noise standards.

The local community will also benefit from new and upgraded walking and cycling connections, upgrades to Koonung Creek Reserve and revitalised wetlands and open spaces.


The role:


As our Alliance continues to grow, we are looking a People Coordinator to join the People, Capability & Inclusion team in a permanent role.


Reporting to the Project People Lead, you will provide generalist HR support to the People team with end-end employment lifecycle, including onboarding, offboarding, employee engagement annual performance cycle and operation support for employees.


Your every day:


  • Assist in the preparation, coordination and delivery of onboarding and induction programs
  • Administration and maintenance of BTA Position Descriptions.
  • Support the resourcing team with preonboarding requirements including; drafting letters of offer, booking preemployment checks and liaising with the incoming employee
  • Ownership, coordination and administration of project and parent organisation offboarding processes
  • Coordination and liaison with exiting employee to support any queries
  • Administer changes to employment terms and conditions
  • Monitoring and management of employee queries and requests through shared mailbox and ensure responses are professional and timely
  • General administration and coordination of employee changes and queries
  • Assist the payroll queries and enquiries
  • Support the People, Capability & Inclusion team in effective roll out of People related processes, procedures and initiatives
  • Ensure that our policies and processes are aligned with 'best practice' through regular reviews with support from people advisors and People Operations Manager
  • Maintaining and updating employee information and records in the project people systems (HRIS) and ensuring data entered is accurate at all times
  • Support people advisors with preparing materials annual performance cycle processes
  • Support the development and implementation of employee and line manager training and upskill on the performance appraisal cycle
  • Coordination of performance appraisal cycle reporting to people advisors and key stakeholders
  • Assist with the preparation of materials and documents for performance management and improvement conversations in consultation with people advisors
  • Undertake duties and responsibilities within the general scope of the position or within the employee's skills and abilities.
Who are you?

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources OR Certificate IV or Diploma in Human Resources preferred but not essential
  • More than 2 years' work experience in Human Resources
  • General knowledge and understanding of current employment legislation and standards
  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders across the Alliance
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment and manage conflicting priorities
  • Ability to manage time effectively to support the successful implementation of key people (HR) related processes
  • Enjoy be part of a driven and lively team, who support eachother to achieve success
  • Ability to travel to and work from our Southbank Project Office and site offices in the eastern suburbs
  • Show a keen willingness and desire to learn and develop generalist HR capability and knowledge
