Who are we looking for?

Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in Shoulder Biomechanics to join School of Mechanical, Medical and Process Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Academic Division.

Real world impact
QUT is a major Australian university with a global outlook and a 'real world' focus.

We are an ambitious and collaborative institution that seeks to equip our students and graduates with the skills they will need in an increasingly disrupted and challenged world.

About the School of Mechanical, Medical and Process Engineering

The School of Mechanical, Medical and Process Engineering delivers education and research into the design, manufacture and operation of Biomedical, Chemical and Mechanical systems and processes.

The School works across all scales, from nanoscale to personal devices to industrial complexes - building pilot plants to put our research into action.

The School builds on the engineering principles of Mechanics, Thermodynamics and Materials Engineering to create new and emerging technologies including Biofabrication, Advanced Manufacturing and Chemical Processing.

We work with partners to build new, and improve existing, systems and technologies across mechanical, medical, mining, food and beverages, oil and gas, energy, waste, sugar, and chemical engineering industries.

The School's research is well aligned with the University's real-world positioning, through partnerships across internal and external boundaries.

Our School leads the following internal and external research centres

  • Centre for Biomedical Technologies
  • ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre for Joint Biomechanics
  • Max Planck Queensland Centre for the Materials Science of Extracellular Matrices
  • Centre for Transformative Biomimetics in Bioengineering
  • Australia-China Centre for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine

Our School also has ties with major QUT research centres, including the Centre for Materials Science, Centre for Agriculture and Bioeconomy, and the Centre for Data Science.

About the Centre

The
ARC ITTC for Joint Biomechanics is a collaboration between QUT, University of Queensland (UQ) and University of New South Wales and is based in the School of Mechanical, Medical and Process Engineering (MMPE).

The Centre aims to bring together leading researchers, industry partners and end-users to train a new generation of interdisciplinary and skilled graduates to tackle industry-focused challenges in joint biomechanics.

It will provide advances required to transform personalised surgical treatment of joints through integrated technologies of computer tools for pre-surgical planning and decision making, computer simulation systems and robot simulators for surgical training, and medical device assessment, and post-surgical assessment tools.

What you need to succeed

Your expertise and initiative, combined with your ability to work as an excellent team player will be vital to your success in this role.

You will demonstrate:

  • Completion of a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Medical Engineering or closely related fields or equivalent accreditation or standing
  • Demonstrated academic research experience in musculoskeletal biomechanics as evidenced by publications in high quality research journals
  • Demonstrated research experience in a relevant area of medical engineering and biomechanics with emphasis on the musculoskeletal systems
  • Evidence of the ability to engage proactively in multidisciplinary teams and multiinstitution collaborative research
  • Ability to selfmanage and innovate new solutions to difficult problems in biomechanics
