About the role

We are seeking principal human factors consultants who have a passion for making a difference, who are flexible, client-focused and committed to developing themselves and others.


Reporting to the NSW State Manager, you will be responsible for the efficient management and delivery of high-quality Human Factors services to clients.

You will also be a member of the companies human factors community and actively participate in the Centre of Excellence.


You will have significant experience in human factors practice, and some experience in systems engineering and/or systems safety practice, applied to complex, safety-critical socio-technical systems, with a preferred background in rail, defence, aerospace, or medical industry.


You will develop and deliver services using advanced human factors practice in a systems engineering and systems safety context, and be considered highly experienced in one or more core human factors competency areas.

You will be responsible for the management and delivery of projects to clients within the related designated practice.


You will exercise a high degree of independence in approach, considerable originality, ingenuity and judgement in formulating solutions or resolving complex human factors issues.

Your work products will be accurate and authoritative, requiring no supervision to achieve successful outcomes for our clients. Your advice and actions are expected to expedite successful achievements in your areas of expertise.


You will help develop and grow the business in all areas, by assisting with tender and sales activities, identifying opportunities for new or follow-on work, following up leads in areas of expertise within and outside your own field, and fostering good relationships with existing and potential clients.


Accountabilities:


As Principal Human Factors Consultant, your accountabilities include:

  • Tendering, planning and executing projects.
  • Leading teams of consultants.
  • Business development.
  • Developing yourself and supporting others.
  • Conducts Early Human Factors Analysis to identify key human factors risk areas for a project or program and develops the strategy for human factors integration in a project.
  • Develops Human Factors Integration Plans, Human Factors Issues Logs, supporting processes or documents, and reports.
  • Implements and coordinates human factors programs of work ensuring effective coordination with systems engineers and systems safety work streams.
  • Establishes and documents contexts of use/concept of operations and human factors/user requirements.
  • Provides advice and evaluations in a range of human factors domains considering human performance variability and to support organizational change: physical ergonomics, humancentred design, humansystem interfaces, and culture and processes.
  • Performs research and benchmarking.
  • Uses human factors methods to perform analyses and assessments including task, communication, workload, change impact, performance degradation potential, training needs etc.
  • Facilitates stakeholder engagement workshops and user/usability trials.
  • Coordinates technical and human factors assurance reviews.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:


  • Degree in human factors or ergonomics or a related field.
  • Postgraduate degree or professional certifications are advantageous.
  • Twelve or more years of human factors consulting, with a proven track record of client focus, including the ability to foster longterm client relationships.
  • Five years' experience in the rail industry or other highly regulated industry.
  • Advanced communication skills, including technical writing
