Description

Support Worker or workers required urgently for individuals in Glasshouse Mountains (10 hours a week requires female worker), Palmwoods (16 hours a week) and Nambour (10 hours a week requires female worker).


Position Description


A support worker ensures that participants are at the centre of their decision making and enables a participant to achieve the desired outcomes of their plans, goals and aspirations in partnership with their families and carers.

A support worker provides this service in accordance with the relevant standards and legislation and is active in advocating the rights of people with a disability.


A support worker:


  • Follows and implements all workplace policies and procedures.
  • Develops general knowledge of and can offer person centred active support.
  • Applies positive customer service principles.
  • Understands relevant stakeholder relationships and the importance of these.
  • Works positively and collaboratively with team members.
  • Follows and implements workplace health and safety guidelines and instructions.
  • Has effective listening skills and seeks, provides and/or shares practical information in an appropriate and respectful manner.
  • Demonstrates confidentiality and diversity awareness.
  • Undertakes administrative tasks necessary for the role including maintaining appropriate documentation and the use of Heart in Hand Support Services' systems.
  • Adopts personal accountability in own role and reports concerns/incidents or breaches.
  • Develops appropriate, supportive working relationships with participants and their families/carers.
Tasks and Duties of a Support worker includes
:Helping with household tasks.

  • Providing personal care support.
  • Assisting with administration of medication.
  • Helping clients learn new skills.
  • Supporting clients to start employment.
  • Doing grocery shopping and preparing meals.
  • Working with doctors and therapists to ensure support.
  • Demonstrating and supporting new life skills, such as budgeting.
  • Adjusting and adapting communication and body language to suit client needs.
  • Supporting clients to develop new hobbies and interests.
  • Transporting and accompanying clients to appointments.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience


Previous experience working in the Disability sector is not essential, however a support worker must have a passion for supporting the participant to have the best life possible.

Workplace training will be provided to assist in the completion of all workplace procedures, however, the following minimum qualifications must be achieved prior to working with participants:

  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Positive NDIS Worker Screen Clearance
  • Police Check
  • Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module
  • Any other relevant certifications to their role as a support worker.

$ $45.00 per hour
