Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is responsible for providing primary and secondary health care for people living in the Auburn, Blacktown, and The Hills Shire, Holroyd and Parramatta Local Government Areas (LGAs) and tertiary care to residents of the Greater Western Region.

What you'll be doing
BEAT is currently located in Mt Druitt.

Young people's access to primary health, mental health, alcohol & drugs, counselling, training and employment services are provided to young people with ready and respectful access to counselling, physical health care, mental health care, information and treatment around drug and alcohol issues, as well as easy access to educational rehabilitation, work skills development, alternative accommodation, and legal advice among other services.

Blacktown Early Access Team (BEAT) provides specialist mental health intervention to young people aged between 12 and 25 years. The team works comprehensively to provide effective treatment for this age group.

BEAT provides treatment of young persons aged between 12 and 24 presenting with a diagnosed moderate to complex mental illness who require specialist mental health intervention.

These mental health diagnoses may include psychotic disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders and those presenting with complex trauma problems.
BEAT provides a range of evidence based interventions to improve mental health outcomes for the young person.

Core work activities include Early Intervention, Early Detection and Prevention, including Health Promotion and improved resilience building strategies for young people of the service.

The role also includes working with the young person's family, providing family work, in collaboration with other members of the team.

Essential Criteria:


Qualification:
Relevant tertiary qualifications as a Registered Nurse, Psychologist, Occupational Therapist or Social Worker

Registration:
Full registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse, Psychologist, Occupational Therapist OR for Social Workers eligibility to be a member of the AASW


Selection Criteria:


  • Experience working with young people, including adolescents, and their families with complex mental health issues, such as psychotic disorders, bipolar affective disorder, complex trauma, depression, & anxiety.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Early Intervention principles in the management of mental illness.
  • Previous experience of working in a community mental health setting and awareness of the Mental Health Act 200
  • Demonstrated clinical proficiency in assessment and treatment of mental illness such as psychotic disorders, bipolar affective disorder, complex trauma, depression, and anxiety.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in working with young people with Alcohol & Other drug difficulties.
  • Current drivers licence valid in Australia.
