Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a Indigenous Student Recruitment Officer to join Oodgeroo Unit, Administrative Division.

The position is hands-on and supports the Oodgeroo Unit's recruitment, events, and school and community engagement activities.

The Indigenous Student Recruitment Officer will develop partnerships and work collaboratively with QUT staff and external stakeholders to improve community engagement and prospective student engagement.

About the area

  • Established in 1991, The Oodgeroo Unit is QUT's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student success unit, providing admission pathways and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The Oodgeroo Unit is responsible for and committed to ensuring pathways to higher education and the academic success of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
This includes;
- assisting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to enter University
- providing our students with academic, personal, and cultural support throughout their degree
- providing a visible cultural presence at QUT
- engaging in community events, representing QUT
- promoting real-world opportunities for our students.

The Oodgeroo Unit operate across both Kelvin Grove and Gardens Point Campuses.

On both campuses, we offer state of the art facilities including computer labs, places to study and work with tutors, and places to meet with other students.

All Oodgeroo Unit staff are required to work across both campuses.


What you need to succeed

  • Education, training and/or experience equivalent to an undergraduate qualification and/or relevant experiences working in Education and Community Engagement roles.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with students through an educational lifecycle through developing and implementing pathways programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and innovative thinking, including collating and analysing information and making recommendations that support an organisation's strategic business objectives.
  • Proven interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues, internal and external clients, suppliers, and other staff within the University and the proven ability to deal with multiple tasks and establish priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience in engagement with external stakeholders including community and industry partners in a culturally appropriate manner adhering to community protocols with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Events and project management experience with demonstrated experience in effectively utilising project management methodologies and understanding of a project lifecycle.
