The Hornsby CYMHS service is seeking an experienced and motivated Consultation Liaison Clinician to join our team to provide specialist Child and Youth Mental Health consultation and liaison to children and young people admitted to the Hornsby Hospital Paediatric ward, the Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC) or presenting to the Emergency Department.

As part of the CYMHS intake team the role will work independently and as part of a team in providing and supporting evidence and values based recommendations on all aspects of the mental health care provided to children and young people (aged years) admitted to PECC and paediatric settings you are experiencing serious mental health difficulties.

What you'll be doing

The CYMHS Consultation Liaison Clinician provides specialist Child and Youth Mental Health consultation and liaison to children and young people admitted to the Hornsby Hospital Paediatric ward, the Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC) or presenting to the Emergency Department.


The Consultation Liaison Clinician is an expert in the field of Child and Youth Mental Health care delivery who will provide leadership, advice and recommendations on all aspects of the mental health care provided to children and young people (aged years) admitted to inpatient settings for mental health difficulties.


The CYMHS Consultation Liaison Clinician will ensure that family-focused care is provided which will involve collaborative care planning with children / young people and their wider family or support network as appropriate.

The Consultation Liaison Clinician will assist to co-ordinate liaison with parents, carers, other public or private health practitioners, school counsellors, community managed organisations and other relevant services involved in the child or young person's care.

In collaboration with paediatric and mental health staff, the Consultation Liaison Clinician will develop and evaluate quality improvement processes / research projects pertaining to mental health care for children and young people within these settings.


The CYMHS Consultation Liaison Clinician will develop and deliver education and training to paediatric health staff regarding caring for children and young people experiencing mental health difficulties.


_People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background encouraged to apply__._**- Relevant tertiary qualifications and experience as per clinical discipline and current full AHPRA registration (or eligibility for membership of AASW for Social Workers). Social Work / Occupational Therapy requires experience as a level 2 clinician. Clinical Nurse Consultant will have at least 5 years full -time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years full-time equivalent in mental health and approved post graduate qualifications or substantial relevant clinical experience within this setting. Clinical Psychologist will have a postgraduate Masters or Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from an APAC accredited University.

  • Extensive experience and knowledge of assessment, crisis management and effective care planning with children and young people experiencing significant mental health difficulties including highly complex, comorbid clinical presentations and associated high levels of risk.
  • Demonstrated senior clinical leadership skills with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and capacity to act as an independent consultant with excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
