2024 Fellow - Maternal Fetal Medicine

Joan Kirner Women's & Children's - Sunshine


An exciting opportunity exists for an appropriately skilled Senior Registrar/Advanced Trainee (Level 6 equivalent) or junior consultant (FRANZCOG or equivalent) to join the dynamic multidisciplinary MFM Unit at Joan Kirner Women's & Children's at Sunshine Hospital.

The JKWC MFM unit provides maternity care for the most complex patients including the full range of fetal and maternal medical disorders.

This 12 month full time position will provide inpatient and outpatient services within the unit.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to combine ultrasound scanning with patient consultation in a range of different high-risk settings including multiple pregnancies, fetal medicine, maternal medicine and postnatal and pre-pregnancy counselling.


The unit is supported by an established Genetics, Fetal cardiology and Neonatology service with a Level 6A nursery supported by full time Neonatologists on site.

The JKWC MFM Unit actively participates in a range of national and international multicentre trials and has ample research opportunities to support the training and career ambitions of an MFM fellow.


About the Role

  • Performing ultrasounds under the supervision of sonographers and sonologists
  • Ensuring that all ultrasounds meet recognised quality standards and comply with the procedures and guidelines of the unit.
  • Counselling women with complex pregnancies including those with maternal medical disorders or fetal complications and developing appropriate evidence based management plans.
  • Assume responsibilities for quality patient care in accordance with the care model of the ward/unit, ensuring that clinical procedures are performed in accordance with Western Health policies and procedures.
  • Accurately reflect the patient's treatment plan, requirements, outcomes or events within prescribed documentation to support ongoing care, communication and to ensure that all legal requirements are met in regards to legibility of content and identity of reporter in accordance with Western Health policies and procedures.
  • Participation in the Early Pregnancy assessment Service (EPAS) ultrasound roster.

About You

  • Completion of Medical Degree (MBBS) or equivalent primary medical degree
  • Hold current or eligible for medical registration with AHPRA
  • Current advanced Obstetrics & Gynaecology trainee nearing completion of training (minimum Level 5/6 FRANZCOG or equivalent) or completed Obstetrics & Gynaecology training (FRANZCOG or equivalent.
