Overview of Role:


This position is responsible for the execution of complex strategic relationship management and account development strategies in support of the Global Meetings Solutions value proposition.

The Strategic Account Manager will provide thought leadership and strategic direction at a solution level and at a client/client portfolio level that drives client retention, account expansion, revenue and profitability growth.

This position acts as the main point of contact for the strategic meetings management client.

This role provides strategic consultation and guidance to the client regarding standard processes and next steps to enhance their meetings program.

They lead the business plan, and business review process, demonstrating others where appropriate and available. T


The Strategic Account Manager will oversee the end-to-end delivery of event planning and sourcing for global clients, ensuring costs are maintained and revenue targets are achieved.

Handle implementations/expansions and improve processes to minimize expenses and drive profitability. Ensure SLAs, critical metrics and SOPs are built, updated and followed to improve service levels and minimize risk. Create an engaging environment to include continuous development and support of in country Local Account Managers. Ensure outstanding quality and customer satisfaction standards are achieved as measured by CSAT.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for understanding client's global program goals, strategies and expectations and ensures integration and alignment into their overall Travel, Card, and Meetings plans (where applicable)
  • Engaged in client's internal process, technology and measurement initiatives to ensure proliferation with American Express Meetings & Events team globally
  • Leads and presents client/internal business reviews, delivers opportunity and growth discussion
  • Leadership role in developing and maintaining globally integrated strategic business plan
  • Develops and delivers thought leadership resulting in creative solutions
  • Advises and consults on industry best practices and process improvements
  • Acts as point of contact for client issue customer concern and resolution
  • Identifies new business opportunities
  • Drives meeting owner adoption of SMM program
  • Additional duties as requested

Key Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Minimum of seven years' experience in leadership of event or meetings management teams or equivalent
  • Tenured people leadership with demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate both direct reports and crossfunctional project teams while ensuring employee engagement
  • Deep knowledge of meetings industry
  • Knowledge of meeting sourcing and planning as required by account portfolio
  • Strong ability to interact and engage client contacts at a meeting level and key contact level
  • Ability to drive revenue and give significantly to revenue targets
  • Experience in handling Pharmaceutical Meetings & Events Programmes
  • Ability to problem solve, create and implement win/win solutions
  • Excellent oral and written communications skill and presentation abilities that ensure critical messages can be delivered succinctly for complete agreement from a variety of audiences
  • Outstanding negotiation and Presentation skills
  • Culturally sensitive and embraces diversity
  • Fluent in oral and written business English and Japanese
  • University degree preferred, MBA a plus
  • Ability to travel, domestically or internationally, as required
