Our Federal Government Client is looking for a
Service Now Product Owner to supply expertise to backlog prioritisation and business engagement while being responsible for the fit for purpose design of Client products and solutions across a range of work packages.


This is an initial contract until 31 December 2023 with possible 2x12-month contract open to Australian citizens able to obtain AGSVA Baseline security clearance.

The selected resource must be capable of working on site at the National Office in Canberra.

Reporting to the Section Manager, this role will have a direct impact in helping our cross
- functional teams deliver incremental value to the business and end user. You'll showcase your enthusiasm for leadership by guiding agile delivery teams in the planning, development, delivery, and early support of digital technology solutions. No two days will be the same as you manage project delivery aspects including scheduling, people leadership, facilitating agile events, providing thought-leadership, and championing a continuous improvement culture.


The Product Owner is responsible for the fit for purpose design of products and solutions across a range of work packages.

This role will primarily supply expertise to backlog prioritisation and business engagement.

This needs to consider the proposed capability uplifts, relevant industry best practice, vendor guided best practice and importantly the impact on the users.

The Product Owner is responsible for working alongside the Client's stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts to coordinate design with the vendor and delivery teams.


The Product Owner will work to the Director Product Management and Transition and with Project Managers to support the individual business area requirements of the product, ensuring it is a viable solution for implementation This role will manage the consistency and quality of products aligning to program standards.

The Product Owner will need to work constructively with all stakeholders to ensure the solution design supports the successful delivery of the Program deliverables.

The Product Owner will proactively work to build strong working relationships with the executive cohort and continue to promote the adoption of ServiceNow capabilities.


The services require specified personnel to:

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to understand and anticipate business needs and translate them into product requirements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design the solution components in accordance with scope and associated parameters, ensuring the design is user centric and fit for purpose from product development to release.
  • Maintain a strategic lens across the entire program of work to streamline the end user experience across integration points.
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on progress and identify risks and solutions for mitigation as required.
  • Uplift capability through training, knowledge and awareness activities around the ServiceNow platform.
  • Develop, prioritise and implement the backlogs of work that align to the strategic direction of the project.

Additional responsibilities during an Electoral Event

  • The volume of duties significantly increases during an electoral period, and there may be a requirement to work outside of standard business hours during this time.

Role Requirements:

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Mandatory_
  • Significant experience in product development and/or as a Business Analyst.
  • Experience designing and or implementing modules of ServiceNow in a large organisation.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to clearly explain complex concepts and arguments to a variety of audiences.
  • Proven ability to harness information, exercise sound judgement and make recommendations under pressure.
  • Desirable_
  • Designing ServiceNow implementations in an Australian Government (federal or state) organisation
  • Designing technical program level activities with ServiceNow partners in a collaborative agile delivery approach
  • Experience as Technical Lead in large ServiceNow platform implementations
  • Certification in ServiceNow design or implementation e.g. Application Specialist, Architect, implementor or System Administrator
