About the role
The purpose of the role is to develop and maintain a trusting, constructive relationship with the Environment Protection Authority (EPA), allowing Sydney Water to discharge its environmental regulatory responsibilities in a manner that complies with all legislative obligations.
The role is to support the Environmental Liaison Manager to coach and mentor the Environmental Liaison Officers technically for timely response, stakeholder engagement and to ensure the team are collaborating across the business to provide timely and accurate regulatory reporting and updates to relevant authorities.
The Environmental Liaison Team sits within the Customer Hub and is a conduit between Sydney Water and the relevant authorities tasked with interpreting complex situations and documentation, and translating this into easily consumable information that guides regulatory and business response.
Your responsibilities are:
- Mentoring and supporting Environmental Liaison Officers, Managers and Technical Specialists through knowledge sharing.
- Collaborating to ensure the team's success in the achievement of business outcomes.
- Driving a highperformance culture. Role modelling Sydney Water values and behaviours and creating a constructive and supportive working environment.
- Supporting reporting between Sydney Water and relevant authorities to ensure Sydney Water is effectively meeting its regulatory obligations.
- Providing expertise in strategic regulatory management, building trust that promotes cooperation.
- Supporting the organisation to ensure the provision of timely, accurate and highquality response to information requests.
- Supports work across the organisation to develop and implement continuous improvement plans.
- Review complex technical documentation and translate information into easily consumable customer and business guidance material. Improve the customer experience and make us easy to deal with.
- Works collaboratively to obtain insights from customers, community, the environmental regulator and relevant authorities, Government and business stakeholders to support and improve the regulatory relationship.
- Monitoring environmental performance and contributes to identifying and addressing issues for business improvement.
About you
- Degree qualification in Environmental Science or Engineering, or experience deemed equivalent.
- 3 years' experience managing complex regulator/stakeholder relationships.
- Water industry experience is highly desirable.
- Sound knowledge of Sydney Water's network operations.
- Sound knowledge of Sydney Water's incident response processes.
- Sound knowledge of Sydney Water's operating and regulatory environment.
- Sound negotiation and problemsolving skills.
- Ability to work in crossfunctional teams and develop effective relationships with stakeholders.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficient Microsoft Excel skills.
