As part of this journey, Novartis has recently introduced the newly created role of Medical Head of Governance & Excellence.

As the Medical Governance Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing medical governance activities and ensuring excellence in Medical Affairs across our local medical organization


Your main responsibilities include:

  • Providing oversight of medical governance activities and maintaining governance capabilities throughout the organization.
  • Managing the Managed Access team and ensuring compliance with local and global guidelines and policies.
  • Collaborating with relevant team members to establish frameworks for access to medicines across the entire lifecycle.
  • Driving excellence in field medical, evidence generation, and launch excellence across the medical affairs organization.
  • Upholding and promoting standards of medical and scientific excellence through recruitment, training, development, and capability building of associates.
  • Proactively collaborating with teams across the enterprise to maintain appropriate medical governance and pursue excellence in medical affairs.
  • Taking responsibility for the successful implementation of global medical processes and capability rollout.
  • Ensuring consistency in onboarding for all Medical Affairs team members.
  • Seeking innovative approaches to enhance the contribution of Medical Affairs to brand success by staying informed about external best practices and innovative approaches.
  • Overseeing the implementation of the local scientific review process.
  • Having primary oversight of the Medical Legal Review process.
  • Maintaining oversight of Australian Medical Information and ensuring insights are connected through the relevant medical team.
  • Serving as a relevant contact on the global and regional teams, championing the impact of Australia.

Role Requirements

  • Strong leadership, influencing, and collaboration skills, with experience in a matrix environment, particularly in clinical and medical affairs. Previous experience with launches across multiple therapy areas is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in data generation, with an advantage if you have experience with realworld evidence data generation.
  • Proven ability to build credibility as a peer expert with external stakeholders.
  • Strong market understanding acquired through country experience.
  • Strategic analytical skills to identify scientific opportunities and development gaps.
  • Understanding of unmet medical needs and ability to utilize innovative, multichannel communication formats for effective evidence dissemination.
  • Track record of successfully leading and hiring toptier medical talent.
  • Experience working and leading in a fastpaced, highdemand organization.
  • Expertise and experience in the related therapeutic area preferred, especially for medical launches.
  • Preferred qualifications include MD, PhD, or PharmD.
