This ASX listed company operates across 17 respected brands in the Australian market. They are undergoing significant change and are looking to appoint a National Industrial Relations to join their People and Culture team. Reporting into the Group Manager of People and Performance, you will work closely with HR Business Partners and Divisional Manager to shape and contemporise the strategy and implementation of the Workplace Relations agenda.

This newly created position will play a pivotal role in shaping the company's approach to industrial relations across its two operating divisions, encompassing 1,600 employees and 39 collective agreements. This role involves providing strategic guidance, timely advice, and operational support to leaders while facilitating the development and deployment of tools and resources aimed at fostering effective and productive industrial relationships within the organisation.

The successful candidate will lead the charge in defining the IR strategy, ensuring that principles of fairness, efficiency, and productivity permeate throughout operations. Responsibilities will include:

    • Assume ownership of critical industrial risks and develop and execute strategies to mitigate them effectively.
    • Implement and adapt industrial relations strategy to align with evolving priorities and legislative changes.
    • Lead and coordinate annual pipeline of enterprise agreement negotiations, utilising tools and resources to uphold industrial priorities.
    • Devise plans to foster industrial harmony, manage conflicts, and establish cooperative processes for addressing industrial issues.
    • Cultivate and maintain constructive relationships with relevant unions to foster dialogue and collaboration.
    • Provide oversight and support to the Return on Engagement (ROE) process, in collaboration with our HSE team when necessary.
    • Keep abreast of emerging legislative issues and ensure readiness to address them effectively.
    • Develop and deliver training programs to enhance the industrial relations acumen of front-line leaders and P&C representatives.
    • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for interpreting and applying industrial agreements.
    • Supervise all tribunal-related activities for the group, in conjunction with the legal team.

    Qualifications / Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Relations, Law, Human Resources, or a related field.
    • Extensive experience managing industrial relations within a large industrial organisation.
    • Detailed understanding of industrial legislation and case history.
    • A demonstrable background of developing strong business relationships.
    • Advanced negotiation and communication skills, supported by relevant training or certification.
    • Strong project management and organisational capabilities.
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities.
    • Proven capacity to think strategically and creatively to achieve negotiation objectives.
    • Extensive experience collaborating with employee organisation officials and agencies at local, state, and federal levels.

This role will be crucial in the successful execution of the organisation's HR road map. Your previous success in reviewing existing collective agreements and negotiating successful outcomes will be paramount. You will be comfortable liaising and negotiating with senior leaders and will be available for some national travel. Your energy and high level of self-confidence will enable your communication and effectiveness across all levels of the organisation. You will need substantial experience with the Australian industrial landscape and be well networked. We are looking for self starters who can think on their feet and build strong working partnerships.
