The Opportunity


The ORIGINS Project, as part of the Telethon Kids Institute, is the largest study of its kind in Australia, following 10,000 children from their time in the womb over a decade to improve child and adult health, with the goal to reduce the rising epidemic of non-communicable diseases through 'a healthy start to life'.

As well as ORIGINS long-term core research, there are a number of clinical trials, early interventions and shorter-term research studies that sit within ORIGINS.


The ORIGINS Team now have a newly established position available to provide guidance and advice around research governance and compliance matters.


As part of the Project Management team and reporting to the Co-Lead, you will coordinate and manage a range of activities related to ethics, governance, contract management and quality improvement processes.

This position will see you leverage on your strong understanding of research governance and contract management as well as your passion to collaborate with others and share your knowledge by creating opportunities for knowledge dissemination within the team.


Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance for Human Research.
  • Preparing contract agreements and coordinating submission of Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) amendments and submissions for ORIGINS.
  • Designing and implementing initiatives for continuous quality improvement and research governance processes.


This position will be based across both our sites, within the Perth Children's Hospital in Nedlands and with occasional travel to our office in Edgewater.

This role can be offered on a part-time (minimum 4 days per week) or full-time basis for 2 years in the first instance, with a likelihood of becoming a permanent position.


About You
This position would suit someone with a strong understanding of research governance, coupled with a keen eye for details.

Along with that, the key to your success will be your demonstrated experience in the following:

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of human research governance, ethics, and research integrity ideally in a medical research context including knowledge of ethics risks in research.
  • Knowledge of research administration and contract management.
  • Skills and experience with developing new processes/procedures, leading continuous improvement initiatives and streamlining work practices.
  • A highlevel of written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to successfully analyse and resolve complex issues/problems.
