Our Strategy & Finance team

In Strategy & Finance, we set our company's shared strategic vision and facilitate long-term strategic planning and resource allocation.

Our team also provide commercial advice and strategic insight; deliver external reporting; and enable the business to effectively manage key strategic, operational and financial risks.

The role with us


As a Mergers & Acquisitions Manager, you will analyse new and emerging trends and understand their impact on capability and infrastructure needs for the future.

Provide business and technical support required for decision making and strategic direction setting.


Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver acquisitions that provide the necessary capabilities to deliver our corporate and business unit strategies
  • Successfully integrate acquisitions in a way that eliminates / minimises risks identified in due diligence, preserves capability, and maximise organisational agility
  • Critique forecasts and ensure that the acquisition criteria meet the strategic objectives of the company and our key M&A acquisition metrics
  • Improve Telstra's M&A practices, processes, and procedures to maximise responsiveness and minimise risk
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of Telstra's operations from a strategic, financial, operational and commercial perspective.
  • Successfully works with Telstra Business Units to identify opportunities to unlock and / or drive greater value from our existing assets and capabilities.
  • Analyse new & emerging trends & evaluate their impact on needs into the future.
  • Explore alternative business models for operations (including alliances, outsourcing & insourcing opportunities).
  • Support strategic development projects
  • HSE Responsibility: Take reasonable care for your own safety and the safety of others, comply with, and implement any reasonable Telstra HSE instruction, policy, standard, minimum requirement or procedure, and support Telstra to meet its duties under the relevant safety and environmental legislation
About you

To be successful in the role, you'll bring skills and experience in:

  • Tertiary education in business, finance, or related disciplines
  • Solid experience in investment banking, private equity, or transaction services department of a top accounting firm or M&A advisory at a boutique firm
  • Strong financial analysis skills (including financial modelling of transactions) in support of M&A transactions
  • Emerging ability to think strategically
  • Experience in managing elements of transaction due diligence and deal administration
  • Ability to write concise and persuasive documents which focus on providing insight rather than just an explanation of data
  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders internal and external
