About the role:


As the successful applicant, you will be an integral team member within the Financial Analysis and Reporting Branch working collaboratively with the team members in providing high quality financial analysis and services across the organisation.

The focus is on detailed variance analysis, identifying key cost drivers, trend analysis, forecasting and month-end financial reporting. You will require excellent time management, general accounting, analytical and financial reporting skills. This role requires a high level of engagement with internal stakeholders which includes senior management across the organisation. The applicant must also have superior writing skills. The Financial Analyst will report directly to the Financial Analysis and Reporting Branch Manager.

Your duties will include:


  • Monthend reporting preparation of accrual balances as part of the monthend process;
  • Detailed variance analysis and insights on actuals vs actuals and actuals vs budget which includes identifying the primary cost drivers;
  • Forecasting on expenditure based on various tools such as trend analysis;
  • Coordinating with the various stakeholders as required;
  • Engagement with internal stakeholders which includes but not limited to working with Shared Services, Budget Management & Analysis, Human Services, Legal Services, WorkCover and Transport Branch;
  • Conducting research and providing inputs on selected accounting topics/issues;
  • Providing accounting advice and technical support to the respective Department/Regions/Commands;
  • Development of reporting tools/templates to support senior management in their analysis of expenditure; and
  • Working as part of a collaborative team.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Accounting principles & standards;
  • Financial reporting requirements; and
  • Relevant financial principles, regulations, policies, procedures and processes associated with a large organisation.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills to work through problems;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of the team;
  • Excellent time management skills where you are able to plan and prioritise work to ensure outcomes are achieved and deadlines met;
  • A good knowledge and understanding of Oracle Financial Systems is highly desirable;
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills is highly desirable.

Requirements and relevant information:


  • Two (2) x fulltime, ongoing positions available.
  • The positions are located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
