St Paul's Cathedral (Cnr Flinders St & Swanston St) is currently seeking an enthusiastic and customer-focussed retail assistant for our new Visitor Centre and Gift Shop.
The Cathedral's new Visitor Centre and Gift Shop has just been completed. This marks the beginning of a new era for us in visitor welcome and service delivery.

We now seek an enthusiastic and customer-focussed retail assistant who will provide exceptional customer service and support the Commercial Manager in the delivery of our retail objectives.

As Retail Assistant you will be engaged in the provision of exceptional customer service, helping our visitors to make purchases from our shop.

You will add value to the Cathedral's retail offering, by demonstrating excellent communication skills and by having a thorough understanding of our product range.

You will understand the principles of selling and be able to demonstrate to all supporting volunteers the customer service standards that are required in the retail space.

You will share a responsibility to deliver 'on target' sales performance.


Main Areas of Responsibility

• Deliver exceptional customer service to all visitors as defined in the customer service guidelines.
• Demonstrate a robust understanding of the full range of products on sale and be able to explain their features to a customer as required.
• Maintain the shop space to the highest standards, resetting, replacing and adjusting the product merchandising as required and updating management on stock levels.
• Ensure the shop space is safe for visitors by monitoring on an ongoing basis that floor space is clear and free from hazards.
• Fulfilling orders received online, packaging items and preparing them for postage.
• Handle cash and process card transactions to a high level of accuracy and complete the end of day reconciliation procedures correctly.
• Deal with the safe securing of value as instructed at the start and end of the shift.
• Support (and when required coach) the volunteer team during their shifts ensuring that they deliver the required standards.
• Have awareness of forthcoming events and worship services in order to be able to promote and answer customer questions as fully as possible.
• Liaising with other Cathedral staff and volunteers to deliver a positive visitor experience.
• Other tasks as responsibly directed.

The Cathedral operates 365 days of the year.

As you would expect, the Cathedral is very busy in the lead up to and around Christmas and Easter and staff are expected to be available.
