About the organisation


Justice Support Centre (JSC) formerly called South West Sydney Legal Centre is a community-based organisation that supports thousands of clients each year in South West Sydney with free legal services and a range of support and therapeutic services to women and children who have experienced domestic and family violence in South West Sydney, Sydney City, Inner West and Waverley.

By providing people with the knowledge, guidance, support services and strength they need to claim their rights, know their options and choose their next step.


By offering a range of services including free legal advice, court advocacy, financial counselling, emotional support and safety planning, Justice Support Centre provides vital services to change people's lives.


An opportunity has arisen for a new CEO to join the organisation, reporting directly to the Board and working with the staff of 75 to continue to build on the work already achieved.


Key accountabilities of the role

  • Work with the Chair and the Management Committee (MC) to execute the strategic plan
  • Provide high level leadership to a team of 7 direct reports and overall staff of 7
  • Manage the operation of all aspects of the JSC and support the MC in its role as the governing body
  • Stewardship of all business functions including financial management, HR & People Leadership, Compliance, Business Systems, Quality, Risk & Compliance
  • Lead and monitor the design, delivery and quality of JSC's programs and services ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Identify and pursue any funding opportunities from government, nongovernment, philanthropic and corporate sources to ensure the long term viability of the organization.

Knowledge, skills and competencies

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience as a CEO, preferably more, leading and managing large budgets and teams with experience in legal, notforprofit environments
  • Strengths based leadership style with the ability to implement a vision and organisational purpose with experience in change management
  • Strong people management and broad HR skills
  • High level of financial literacy, including experience with budgeting, reporting and analysis
  • Experience managing the administration of government funded contracts.
  • Confident communicator able to express complex ideas clearly to a diverse range of stakeholders and be the face of JSC with the media, as required. Plus, government advocacy experience would be highly regarded
  • Understanding the dynamics of domestic and family violence, preferably with some experience in the sector
